A week late

Wow, it has taken me a whole week to post about our long weekend. Here are the highlights:

Saturday:
We headed to San Diego for the afternoon. We went to the Gaslamp District and found our first cupcake place (it was actually called a "cupcake lounge"). They have become all the rage in Austin. It was crowded downtown since a jazz fest had some of the streets blocked off and there was a Padres game later that day.
Phillip was being a little paranoid about George getting chocolate frosting on Daddy's white shirt.
G-man loves cupcakes.

We headed to the base next to see the ship Phillip will be cruising on. It was big and really gray.
We went to Balboa Park and rode the carousel. I'm sure we have pictures of me riding that same carousel when I was a kid. It will be 100 years old next year and all of the animals, with the exception of 2 pairs, are original. George rode a bitty horse.
It was the longest, fastest ride we've ever been on!

Potty break at the Natural History museum. At $25 per person, we weren't stopping in on a whim 45 minutes before closing. I found out today that it is free for military families on the first Tuesday of each month.

Sunday:
Charley's Tacos after church, thanks to my friend Sara (and Kelly who first made them for me). Daddy went to the base for a haircut and came home with a (piece-of-junk) slip'n'slide. George loved it, but the girls got all banged up. We let it dry and packed it up.

Monday:
We returned the slip'n'slide and picked up a new charcoal grill. Our faithful but nearly-rusted-through gas grill didn't make the trip from Austin. We haven't had charcoal since Hannah was 5 weeks old, when we left that grill in S.C. after it wouldn't fit on the moving truck to N.C. We made ribs, corn-on-the-cob and The Lady's mac and cheese. Homemade cherry pie and vanilla ice cream for dessert.

We switched out the bump'n'bruise for a pool.
George liked it...
until Kate pulled his bottom in.
Then he was more content to be outside the pool.
The End.
In other news...I have switched from sugar to Splenda in my coffee. Now that's huge.
